Many of the films featured have become cult classics, but there are so many good films from these eras that it has been difficult to whittle it down to just 10. Honourable mentions to other films from the era must go to those who narrowly missed out on making my top ten – films such as The Fog, The Thing, An American Werewolf in London, The Shining, Pet Sematary, The Amityville Horror, Cujo and Orca.
See how many of these you have watched and how many you’d definitely add to your rewatch list.

THE LOST BOYS (1987): When it comes to vampire films, few stand up to director Joel Schumacher's slick, action packed horror fest. One of the coolest films of the 80s, this was a teen drama with a twist as a brat pack of rock vampires suck the life out of Santa Carla, a seaside town in California. Into the carnage arrive unsuspecting brothers Michael and Sam (Jason Patric and Corey Haim) and their single mom Lucy (Dianne West), only for each to catch the attention of this gang of human leeches. It's a lot scarier than it sounds thanks to a menacing Kiefer Sutherland as leader of the pack vampire David and Edward Harmann hamming it up as Max as well as surprisingly good special effects and make up. The comic antics of the vampire hunting young mortals the Frogg brothers add light relief. Best scene: The bridge encounter, anything with the uber-cool eccentric Grandpa (Barnard Hughes).
