Buncrana Halloween parade to take place this weekend in Donegal

Buncrana’s Hallowe’en parade, Samhain by the Swilly – Parade of the Púca returns to the town this Sunday, October 25, and everyone is invited.

Buncrana will come alive after dark on Sunday evening, with the family-friendly parade set to get under way at 7pm on Main Street.

Fully funded and supported by Donegal County Council through it’s Night-Time Economy initiative, Samhain by the Swilly represents sustained investment in Buncrana’s growing night-time culture. Inishowen Carnival Group and MRK Live will be delivering the ‘Parade of the Púca’ as the centrepiece event, to capture the magic of Buncrana after dark. After the parade, families are invited to attend St Mary’s Hall for some spooky tunes from Bernie Doherty and arts and crafts for kids.

The ‘Parade of the Púca’ will feature illuminated floats, dazzling performances, and vibrant costumes that will bring Main Street to life, drawing families and visitors into the heart of the town for a memorable Halloween experience. The parade will leave from Nailor’s Row, following the parade route to the bottom of the Main Street and then will turn and return along the same route.

Sophie Gallagher, the Night-Time Economy Advisor for Buncrana said: “It’s wonderful to see Buncrana continuing to thrive through creative night-time experiences. This parade celebrates Buncrana after dark - a place where creativity, inclusion, and community connection come together to deliver something truly special for locals and visitors alike.”

The event forms part of Donegal County Council’s ongoing commitment to developing the Night-Time Economy, funded by The Department for Culture, Communications and Sport.

Chief executive John G. McLaughlin commented “The Parade of the Púca is one of many events taking place in Buncrana throughout the year under the Night-Time Economy Initiative. Together, these activities bring people into the town centre, support local businesses, and reinforce Buncrana’s identity as a lively, welcoming place after dark. It’s a strong example of how we’re using culture and community-led events to drive footfall, pride, and economic activity in our towns”
