There won’t be the tens of thousands gathering in the dark to be serenaded by local acts and entertained by MCs and a host of characters as they wait for the arrival of Santa on his crane.

But in Derry Santa will still be there alongside Mayor Brian Tierney and everyone can join in online on Sunday at 5pm for the big Derry Switch On via www.derrystrabane.com/christmas.

In Limavady meanwhile, the town will also be lit up tomorrow and the event will be broadcast later at 7pm via the Visit Causeway, Coasts & Glens YouTube channel and Facebook page.

This will be followed by Dungiven’s Big Switch On airing next Saturday, November 28, at 7pm.

While Donegal is still at Level 5 restrictions at the minute, across Inishowen, details are being finalised for the Switch Ons, and a little elf has told us that some of the lights are already in place ahead of the switch on events, with Carndonagh’s impressive tree and lights expected to be switched on next weekend.
