Can you have too much of a good thing? Well, it turns out the answer to this is in fact yes.
Because I sat down and watched every major Christmas advert released in the UK in 2024 all in one go and I think I got a sugar rush of the brain. I felt the same way I do after gorging myself on gingerbread men on December 25 - shame, festive cheer and like I wanted to throw up.
There were plenty of highs - I’ve already spoken of my love for this year’s John Lewis advert and that has not changed in the days since. However there were some really unfortunate lows.

17. Waitrose - Sweet Suspicion
It is a two-parter, which is a first for Waitrose, and it will be resolved in the coming weeks. So my rating is a provisional one - but I think I was an easy mark for this, given my love of Christmas mysteries. Christmas rating: 4.5 Jingle Bells. | Waitrose/ YouTube Photo: Waitrose/ YouTube

18. Tesco - #FeedYourChristmasSpirit
Audiences have been raving about this Christmas ad and rightly so. It is heartwarming and super inventive - tackling serious topics like grief and loss in a beautiful way. All while having great fun with showing ordinary everyday items as gingerbread. Christmas rating: 4.75 Jingle Bells. | Tesco/ YouTube Photo: Tesco/ YouTube

19. John Lewis - The Gifting Hour
A magical trip through the nostalgia of Christmases past, I found myself completely charmed by this effort. It gives strong Narnia vibes - the first film of which came out at Xmas and I remember watching with my own sibling. It is a brilliant effort and was well worth the wait. I love how it captures the manic vibes of doing Christmas shopping at the last minute and how the holiday really is all about your family - and the joy of getting the perfect present.
