Derry 'Tech' Principal Leo Murphy calls City Deal 'catalyst for change'

The Principal and Chief Executive of North West Regional College Leo Murphy has welcomed the signing of the Heads of Terms for the City Deal and the Inclusive Future Fund Investment Plan, describing it as a “catalyst for change”.

Mr. Murphy said the announcement is the next step forward in delivering economic and social prosperity for the North West Region.

He added: “The City Deal will be largest ever investment in this City Region and involve £250M of medium to long term investment to boost the local economy. I believe this will be a catalyst for change.

“The economists have estimated that the project proposals have the potential to deliver an additional 7000 jobs, drive growth in output and provide a population boost as further people are attracted to come to this region to work and study."

He thanked Derry City and Strabane District Council Chief Executive John Kelpie for leading the City Deal project.

"I go on record thanking John and his council team for their work. It’s now over to the delivery partners to move the projects forward together.

“NWRC has been involved in this work since 2016.

“Despite all the challenging news that predominates our lives in these times this is without a doubt a good news day for the City and Region," he said.
