Funding secured to provide 1,200 free meals

Studio 2 has secured funding to deliver another 1,200 free meals to elderly and vulnerable people in the community.

In the last three weeks Moji at Studio 2 has delivered over 1,500 meals.

The demand for the meals has grown ten fold in that time, with 20 to 30 meals initially being prepared and delivered everyday. Last Friday alone, the team of volunteers delivered 300 meals.

Ollie Green, director at Studio 2 said that further funding has been secured through the Public Health Agency.

“We had been delivering programmes funded by the PHA which have been unable to continue as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic. The PHA allowed us to divert the funds into directly supporting the immediate response for older and vulnerable people.

“We were delighted they gave us the go ahead.”

The free meals are also being supported through public donations and Mr Green said this support has been ‘wonderful’ and ‘invaluable’.

Mr Green said Studio 2 are applying for further grants to ensure they can continue to provide the free meals.

“There are at least 500 vulnerable, elderly and isolated people across the city that we are trying to support. That number is only going to increase in the weeks and months ahead. We are only in the early stages of this pandemic so we are working to secure the necessary resources to continue providing free meals.”
