Young person under 20 admitted to Altnagelvin with COVID-19; hospital 1.56% over capacity

A young person under 20 was admitted with COVID-19 yesterday to Altnagelvin and the hospital is now operating at 1.56 per cent over capacity.

A young male, aged 0-19, was admitted to the Derry hospital on Wednesday, according to the latest Department of Health figures.

At midnight on Wednesday 34 people were being treated as coronavirus inpatients across all Western Trust hospitals.

Seven of 10 (70%) ICU beds at Altnagelvin were being used to treat COVID-19 patients; two (20%) were occupied by patients with other conditions and one was free.

Six ICU patients in total were being ventilated - five were COVID-19 patients and one had another condition.

In terms of general occupancy 6.56% of beds at Altnagelvin were ‘COVID-19 occupied’, 90.31% were ‘other occupied’ and the hospital was operating at 1.56 over capacity; 3.13% were ‘awaiting admission.’

There have been no further deaths.
