33rd breach of bail conditions lands woman in custody at Derry court

A woman who was granted High Court bail last Thursday has been remanded in custody for her 33rd breach of bail at Derry Magistrate's Court.

Courtney Temple (22) of Clon Elagh in Derry had been currently on bail with several conditions including a curfew, and order not to consume alcohol and one regarding residency.

The court heard that Temple breached all three conditions on September 7.

The court heard that police were called after Temple was not present at her address at her curfew time.

Police called out and were given an address where the defendant was at.

Police attended and discovered she was intoxicated and a breath test gave a reading of 87mgs with 35mgs being the legal limit.

Police objected to bail stating Temple had only lasted a matter of days after being granted bail.

The officer said that alcohol played a part in almost all of Temple's bail breaches and since her record started in March 2023 she had breached her conditions 33 times.

The court was told that many of those breaches were violent in nature.

Defence counsel Sinead Rogan said that her client had 'issues with alcohol' and recently suffered a medical set back which caused her considerable upset.

She said that Temple had not been evading police.

District Judge Suzanne Rice said that Temple was facing serious charges and had been given the opportunity to comply with conditions but had failed to do so.

She refused Temple bail and remanded her in custody to appear again on September 10.
