'Very intoxicated' man looking for party set off fire extinguisher in Derry flats

Derry Magistrate's Court has heard how a man was 'very intoxicated' when he set off a fire extinguisher in a block of flats.

Daniel John Moran (41) of inch View admitted criminal damage and obstructing police on August 1.

Police were called to an incident in a block of flats and found Moran banging on a door while the landing and stairwell were covered in white after the defendant had set off a fire extinguisher.

Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said that his client had no idea how he ended up where he did as he was very intoxicated.

He added that he believed he was looking for a party.

Mr MacDermott said that Moran had not been in trouble in the last six years and had been in employment until recently.

District Judge Suzanne Rice said that Moran had a record 'of some vintage'.

Moran was given a conditional discharge for a period of 18 months, fined £150 and ordered to pay £350 in compensation.
