Woman admits child sex abuse offences at Derry court hearing

Derry Crown Court has heard that a woman who has admitted child sex abuse offences is already on the Sex Offender's Register for five years because of a relevant previous conviction.

During the court hearing on Tuesday Nichole Scott, 31, from Holly Lane, Gransha Park in the Waterside area of Derry, pleaded guilty to intentionally attempting to incite a female child under the age of sixteen to engage in sexual activity.

She further pleaded guilty to attempting to cause the same female child to look at an image of a person engaging in sexual activity, and guilty to attempting to sexually communicate with the same female child for her personal sexual gratification.

Scott admitted committing the offences between January 28 and February 10, 2024.

Defence barrister Stephen Mooney told Judge Roseanne McCormick KC that the defendant, Scott, is due to be sentenced in Dungannon Crown Court on September 7 after she breeched the terms of a three year probation order earlier this year.

The order was imposed on her following her conviction for "a contact offence" which involved two other defendants, both of them men.

Following the guilty pleas, Mr. Mooney told Judge McCormick that he accepted the entirety of the prosecution case.

"Her liberty is in peril because she is now the subject of breach proceedings for her previous conviction for a relevant offence, albeit not with an under-18", he said.

Judge McCormick ordered the preparation of a pre-sentence report and said she would fix a sentencing date for Scott on September 11.
