52-year-old Derry man assaulted taxi driver
A 52-year-old man who assaulted a taxi driver has had a six month sentence suspended for two years.
Francis Feeney, of Carnhill, was convicted of common assault and criminal damage on August 30, 2014.
Derry Magistrate’s Court was told Feeney was travelling to the city from County Donegal when he assaulted the driver and caused damage to the car.
Defence Counsel, Nicki Rountree, said her client ‘never intended to go out that night and cause trouble.’
She added Feeney now accepts there was an ‘encounter’ with the taxi driver.
Suspending the sentence, District Judge Barney McElholm also ordered the 52-year-old to pay £300 compensation to the injured party.
