Derry man denies domestic assault charges

A 34-year-old Derry man has appeared in court charged with a domestic assault.

Jonathan Getty, whose address was given on court papers as Primrose Street, is charged with common assault and attempted criminal damage.

He is further charged with disorderly behaviour in the Waterside on August 21.

An investigating PSNI officer told Derry Magistrate’s Court he believed he could connect Getty to the charges.

He added that there was no police objection to bail subject to conditions.

Defence solicitor, Mr. Paddy MacDermott, said his client denies all the allegations, which are of a domestic nature.

He added that the proposed bail address is outside the city, but Getty would have to come into the city to work at a local gym.

Getty was released on his own bail of £500 to reside at Newbridge Road, Coleraine.

He is banned from contacting the alleged injured party and must not enter the Waterside area of the city.

Judge Barney McElholm made it a condition of the defendant’s bail that he must enter and leave the city to travel to work via the Foyle Bridge only.

Getty will appear back in court again on September 14th.
