Derry shooting - ‘These attacks need to stop immediately’ - Fleming
Sinn Féin councillor Paul Fleming has condemned the shooting of a man in the Currynierin area of Derry.
Two men forced their way into the house and shot the occupant several times in the legs at around 11pm on Thursday night.
Councillor Fleming said: “The shooting of a man in the Whitethorn Drive area of Currynierin was wrong and I condemn it.
“This is the second such shooting in the city in a week. These attacks need to stop immediately.
“There is no place for these type of incidents in our society and those behind them need to realise that and go away.
“Anyone with information on what happened should bring it forward to the PSNI.”
Police last night attended the scene of the shooting at the house in the Whitethorn Drive area.
A PSNI spokesperson said: “Shortly before 11pm, it was reported that two men forced their way inside a house and shot a male occupant a number of times in his legs. The man is currently receiving medical treatment for his wounds.
An investigation is under way and anyone with any information which could assist with police enquiries is asked to contact officers at Strand Road on 101 quoting reference number 2083 15/04/21. Information can also be given anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
In a seaprate incident on Tuesday night, another man was shooting in the Bogside in both legs after a masked gang entered his flat.
