Defence counsel Eoghan Devlin said his client, who has a background of mental health issues and difficulties with alcohol consumption, would be admitting the charge.

He told the court that Flynn had been arrested following a serious assault in the city last week, but was released when it was established he had ‘acted as a good samaritan’.

The barrister added that the damage to the flat was caused upon his release from custody.

Sentencing was adjourned and Flynn was remanded in custody until May 21.
