The police force said they received reports from farmers about dogs roaming loose in fields around both villages. They have asked pet owners to be responsible.

"In recent days we have received reports about sheep worrying and dogs being loose in fields in the Claudy and Castlederg areas. We would ask dog owners to keep their dogs under strict control whilst out for a walk in the countryside, and to keep dogs on a lead while around livestock at all times.

"The local council dog wardens can be contacted by anyone concerned about sheep worrying," said the PSNI.
