The gates will remain locked on New Year’s Eve due to hazardous conditions and for health and safety reasons.
A Council spokesperson said: “Due to heavy overnight sleet and frost, all cemeteries within the Derry area - City Cemetery, Ballyoan and Altnagelvin - are currently closed for health and safety reasons.
“They will be opened as soon as it is safe to do so.

The cemeteries were also closed to the public on Wednesday for the same reasons.
Meanwhile the Council has also urged people to observe the rules around attending recycling centres.
The spokesperson said: “If you must make an essential journey to a Council Recycling Centre in the coming days, please remember that social distancing measures are in place to keep everyone safe, which may cause some delays.
