Lenten events from St Eugene’s Cathedral

St Eugene’s Cathedral have confirmed details of events during Lent  ahead of the traditional start to the season, Ash Wednesday  next week.

Each week day morning prayers will be said from the Cathedral at 7.45am, followed by Mass at 1pm daily.  At 5pm each week day there will be a focus on a Gospel Encounter.

On Mondays, Bishop of Derry Dr Donal McKeown will hold Lenten Conversations from 7pm to 7.25pm from the Cathedral Hall.

Also on Monday evenings during Lent, Fr Patrick Lagan will  host a book club from 8.30pm.

Meanwhile on Wednesdays there will be a ‘Local Vocal’ choral event by Margarete McNamee, from the Cathedral Hall.

Bishop McKeown is also inviting people to join him as he embarks on a 24-hour Day of Prayer and Penance next Friday, February 19.

He said: “Lent is an annual season of the Liturgical Year with a strong emphasis on the biblical practices of prayer, penance and almsgiving (Matthew 6:1-18).

“I invite people to consider joining us across the Diocese of Derry on the first weekend of Lent 2021.

“As happened last year, we propose to mirror some of the key elements of the centuries-old Lough Derg pilgrimage.”
