Friday’s Child - Serena Terry ‘Mammy Banter’

This week’s Friday’s Child is Serena Terry, a mum of two who works for a local tech company and is married to Letterkenny man, Mark Terry.

Serena has been hailed as a lockdown hero due to her hilarious TikTok videos making hundreds of thousands of people all around the world laugh during the pandemic.

Since March last year, she has amassed over 167,000 followers and her videos have collectively gained close to five million likes.

How would you describe yourself? 
Down to earth, hardworking, loyal and fun-loving.

Happiest childhood memory? Family holidays to Galway.

What was your first job?
 I worked in the Leprechaun Restaurant as a sandwich maker when I was 14. I told them I was 16 at the time just to get a job. To this day I still lie about my age, sure I’m only 21.

Favourite book? 
Currently, Erin’s Diary by Lisa McGee.

Favourite film? 
Oooh tricky, let’s go with Anchorman for comedy and Warrior for the cinematography (I mean Tom Hardy).

Mother of God it can only be Line of Duty.

Favourite expression? 
Jesus, Mary and the wee donkey!

Favourite method of relaxation? 
Wine and TV when the kids are in bed. And the Galgorm!

Right now? Anywhere.

Who would you most like to meet? 
Will Ferrell.


What makes you angry?

When my husband goes to the shop and doesn’t bring me anything back, even when I tell him not to bring me anything back, he should know.

What makes you happy? 
My family. (And chocolate and wine but not now because I’m being wile good ye know).

What human quality do you most admire? 
Empathy.

What human quality do you least admire? 
Narcissism.

What has been the most embarrassing thing to happen to you?

There was a tumble dryer incident of my undergarments (Bridget Jones pants) attaching themselves to the velcro of my child’s coat to then only be discovered by the teacher. In school. Eugh.

What was the worst thing to happen to you in your life? 
When I lost my two brothers six months apart in 2019.

What is your greatest fear? Losing anyone else that I love.

What has been the high point of your life to date? 
The birth of my two children and marrying the best specimen of man Letterkenny could muster.

How would you like to be remembered? 
As the best mother, best wife, and someone who made people smile.

What is your most treasured possession? 
I’m not really a possession person, I do have a fantastic new dressing gown though that I am clean mad about.

If you won the lotto what would you do with it? 
Pay off my mortgage, give money to family and probably set up my own business.

If you could be granted one wish in life, what would you ask for? 
My health.

If you could write your own epitaph what would it be?
