Gas being switched off at Derry flats complex

Alternative arrangements are being put in place for residents at a city centre flats complex due to an issue connected to the gas supply.

Sinn Fein Councillor Mickey Cooper said talks have ben ongoing with the affected residents from Conar’s Court and Habinteg Housing Association.

Habinteg took over the privately built, 32-flat development on the Crawford Square area off Northland Road several years ago.

Colr. Cooper said as he understands the issues identified could take eight weeks to resolve.

He said: “There is an issue with some of the infrastructure in the flats that has caused the gas to be closed off as a precaution. This is something Habinteg has inherited.

“Alternative arrangements are currently being put in place while the gas is off. I understand this will be the case for eight weeks to allow the appropriate works to be completed. I hope the alternative arrangements will meet the satisfaction of residents.”

The Journal has tried to contact Habinteg after business hours on Monday evening but the office was closed for the day.
