Photographer Deirdre Brennan is looking for women and children named Brigid, or any spelling of the name, for a portrait photography project. Deirdre will be taking the photographs at The Playhouse, 5-7 Artillery St, Derry on November 1 and November 2 from 10am to 5pm.

To commemorate the 1500th anniversary of St Brigid's death in 2024, Deirdre is creating a series of photographic portraits of contemporary women and children named Brigid, Bridget, Bríd or any spelling of the name.

Combined with text about the women's lives and what the name Brigid means to them. This project is really an examination of the status of women in modern-day Ireland through the eyes of Brigid.

Deirdre asks each woman to bring an object to hold in the photograph that symbolises their lives, work, interests, achievements or relationship to Brigid the saint and goddess. Whatever that may be.
