St Patrick’s Day 2023: 3 cocktails to celebrate with Beth Franklin

Contrary to popular belief, the famous Saint Patrick was reportedly born in Britain rather than Ireland. Here - amongst many groups - he encountered the Picts for whom he held contempt as he described ‘the apostate Picts’ as just ‘as bad as his fellow countrymen’ as he knew them for murdering newly-baptised Christians. This note was discovered in Saint Patrick’s letter to the soldiers of Coroticus.

A new peer reviewed article “The "mica crisis" in Donegal, Ireland – a case of internal sulfate attack?” published in the number one ranked journal internationally for Building and Construction, Cement and Concrete Research, confirms that the geological mineral mica is not the primary cause of failure of defective concrete blocks in Donegal homes, but is the mineral pyrrhotite present in the aggregate found in defective blocks in the county.

Defective concrete blocks are failing ‘because of pyrrhotite and not mica.’ Staff Reporter
