Police at Strand Road are now appealing for information about the horrifying episode, which unfolded in the city centre last Friday, March 4.

A PSNI spokesman said two men were in a black Vauxhall Astra at Foyle Road when their route was blocked by another car, a dark Volkswagen Passat.

“Two men got out of the Passat and attacked the Astra,” the PSNI spokesman said. “One of them had an iron bar or baseball bat, the other had a machete.

“The front passenger was about 6ft tall of a thin build and was wearing a snood covering his face and his hood was up. The side passenger was shorter and wearing a blue hoody, scarf covering his face, hood up.”

The driver in the Astra managed to move off, but the Passat followed as he made his way along the Foyle Road (city bound lanes), Lower Bennet Street, Abercorn Road, Lecky Flyover, Rossville Street, Great James Street, and Strand Road.

Police have confirmed that the cars collided a number of times before the Astra driver was able to make good his escape.
