Man escapes from car after driving into river near Dungiven

Seven fire appliances were tasked to the Dungvien when a man attempted to cross a river in a 4x4 vehicle on Tuesday.

The man managed to escape from the vehicle and was treated for shock by members of the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) at the scene. The man did not require hospital treatment following the incident.

“Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) received a call at 9:51am to a report of an incident at the Crebarkey Road area of Dungiven on Tuesday morning,” said an NIFRS spokesperson.

“Five fire appliances from Crescent Link Fire Station, one fire appliance from Maghera Fire Station, one fire appliance from Dungiven Fire Station were assisted by the Special Rescue Team from and the Fire Emergency Support Service following a report that a vehicle had attempted to cross a river in the area. NIFRS finished at the scene at 10:10am.”
