'˜McCanndelion' wine anyone?

A Derry gardener has named a bottle of dandelion wine after newly elected People Before Profit MLA for Foyle, Eamonn McCann!

Conor O’Kane harvested dandelion heads on May 5, (the same day as the election) and proceeded to call his special brew ‘Eamonn McCanndelion Wine’.

Mr. O’Kane revealed how he planned to look after his wine during the crucial fermentation process.

“Eamonn has now moved to the chamber and is settling in nicely, starting to bubble away.

“Great results should be visible within the year, though patience could yield a superb transformation in two to three years.

“Given the current climate, rather than being confined to the hotpress, Eamonn will be on the windowsill enjoying this moment in the sun,” said Mr. O’Kane.

Mr. McCann’s election to the Assembly was one of the biggest stories to emerge from last weekend’s election.

The 73-year-old human rights activist, campaigner and journalist has been involved in the local political scene for more than 50 years.

Mr. McCann joined the other 107 MLAs at Stormont yesterday to sign the Undertaking and Roll of Membership.

Meanwhile, Arlene Foster MLA and Martin McGuinness MLA were re-elected as First and Deputy First Ministers respectively at Stormont yesterday.

The DUP’s Robin Newton replaced Sinn Fein’s Mitchel McLaughlin as Speaker of the House.
