“The residents of the area are delighted that the scheme has been instigated and will mean that the pathway which is now attracting a great deal of joggers and walkers will be better illuminated and therefore safer for everyone, especially children and their parents who use the route to nursery and the two primary schools in the area,” he added.

Local resident, Chris Cassidy, welcomed the work.

“I recently joined a running a club but like to go running on my own at night. The new street lights make running through the estate an option for me now,” he said.

Mr. Durkan urged residents in the area to contact his office directly if they noticed any broken street lights, insiting he would do all that he could to ensure they are repaired immediately.

“I have also recently secured the installation of dog waste bins along this road so dog walkers can ensure the pathway is kept foul free.

“Meanwhile, I would also encourage anyone who notices any faulty or broken street lighting to contact my office so we can report it to the Department of Regional Development (DRD) to have them put on the schedule as soon as possible.”
