The PSNI visited Moorlough near Donemana on Tuesday with other members of the emergency services and officials to discuss the issue.

"We held an onsite meeting at Moorlough with Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) and Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) representatives regarding safety issues around the site.

"As a result, additional signage and safety precautions will be in place in the near future. This is an absolutely beautiful area to be enjoyed by all, however we can not stress enough how dangerous the lough is for swimmers," a spokesperson said.

With warmer weather expected this week the PSNI said they wanted to emphasise the perils of swimming in lakes and reservoirs.

"The message is simple please DO NOT SWIM in Moorlough," the force said.
