She was praised by the RTS for “a truly stand-out performance in a brilliantly funny series, she confidently commits to the character despite the craziness of the world she inhabits.”

Following her win, the Derry actress posted on social media ‘I’m speechless’.

She also said that she feels “so lucky to be part of such a cracker show.”

The hit Channel 4 show won a Bafta last year for Best Scripted Comedy and also won the Best Scripted Comedy and Best Writer (Comedy) at last year’s RTS awards.

However, Derry Girls lost out on the same accolades at this year’s RTS awards to Fleabag and the creator, writer and star of the show Waller-Bridge.

Writer and creator of Derry Girls Lisa McGee has confirmed she is currently writing season three of the hit show.

There has been speculation that the third series may be the last, however Lisa McGee sought to reassure fans by posting ‘who knows what the future holds for The Derry Girls, but please don’t worry we are plotting!”
