Jamie Dornan accent in ‘Wild Mountain Thyme’ labelled ‘worst Irish accent ever heard’

The film is set in Ireland and features Dornan as Anthony, the son of an Irish farmer (Christopher Walken) and British born actress, Emily Blunt, as Rosemary who is quite literally the girl next door.

The pair become embroiled in a land dispute between their two families but a romance ensues.

The trailer for the movie dropped earlier this week and within hours people on both sides of the border took to social media to give their verdict on Dornan’s Irish accent.

Dublin Airport official Twitter account tweeted a link to the trailer but joked Dornan’s accent should be investigated by the “accent police”.

“There’s fashion police, grammar police, we even have airport police.

“Is there such a thing as accent police?

“If so, somebody better call ‘em.

“On the upside, Ireland looks nice,” tweeted Dublin Airport.

RTE journalist, Fergal Bowers, said Dornan’s accent was that awful an “Irish accent emergency declared for Wild Mountain Thyme”.

One Irish woman quipped: “I want Jamie Dornan and Emily Blunt to answer for their sins.”

The Irish embassy in Washington DC even weighed in and sympathised with Dornan.

“To be fair, Irish accents are hard (we struggle with them at times). But otherwise #WildMountainThyme looks great. And, in Jamie Dornan & Emily Blunt, presents a remarkably realistic depiction, visually at least, of the average Irish man & woman. Truly, we are a beautiful people.”
