Police step up patrols as anti‑social behaviour increases in Strabane

Police in Strabane have issued fresh warnings after a rise in anti‑social behaviour, including a recent incident in which fireworks were set off in the Bradley Pass area.

A PSNI spokesperson said officers are carrying out high‑visibility patrols in affected locations to reassure residents and to deter or detect further incidents. One recent incident involved fireworks being set off in the Bradley Pass area on September 11.

The spokesperson urged anyone tempted to become involved in anti‑social behaviour to stop and consider the consequences of their actions and the impact on the wider community.

They also appealed directly to parents and guardians to speak with their children, be aware of where they are, and know what they are doing.

Anyone with concerns, or anyone who needs to report anti‑social behaviour in their area, is encouraged to contact police on 101 — or 999 in an emergency.

Sergeant Bruce said: “There has been a recent increase in antisocial behaviour in the Strabane area, and we are appealing to anyone tempted to get involved to really think about what they’re doing, to think of the impact on the community, and the possible consequences for them.

“It’s not fun, and we would also urge parents and guardians to be aware of where their children are and what they are doing.

“Regards fireworks, they are explosives and, when misused, can potentially cause serious injuries. There are dangers associated with fireworks as well as the potential consequences of handling stolen property, or becoming involved in anti-social behaviour.

“Our officers are conducting high-visibility patrols in the areas impacted to provide reassure and deter and detect any further incidents.

“In the meantime, if you have concerns or need to make a report concerning antisocial behaviour where you live, contact us on 101, always 999 in an emergency.”
