Sinn Féin call for answers from the PSNI after Derry bonfire video sees paramilitary flag
Sinn Féin has criticised what it says is the PSNI’s failure to intervene after a video circulated online appearing to show a man trying to place a flag linked to the UFF on an illegal bonfire in Derry’s Fountain area, just metres from police officers who seem to take no action.
Speaking after viewing the video, Sinn Féin Councillor Emma McGinley said: "The PSNI has serious questions to answer about why no action was taken when an individual was seen attempting to erect a UFF associated flag.
"The video appears to show PSNI officers observing the incident without intervening or taking any enforcement action. If that is the case, it is deeply concerning.
"We are calling on the PSNI to carry out a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident and to explain why no action was taken.

"Incidents such as this do nothing to build public confidence in policing. Communities are entitled to expect that the law will be applied fairly and consistently, without fear or favour.”
In response to Sinn Féin and Colr. Emma McGinley, a spokesperson for the PSNI said: “Police in Derry have been made aware of a video on social media and are conducting enquiries into the matter.
“If it is determined that an offence has been committed the circumstances will be investigated in line with our Service guidance.
“Officers continue to engage and work with local communities and partner agencies in relation to complaints involving flags.”
UFF represents the Ulster Freedom Fighters, a loyalist paramilitary group that operated during the Troubles.
