Coronavirus: Five or less confirmed cases (1%) of COVID-19 in Donegal

Five or fewer cases of COVID-19 confirmed in the south by midnight on Thursday were in Donegal, the National Public Health Emergency Team have confirmed.

An analysis of cases up until midnight on Thursday, March 18, provides greater detail on who is getting infected and where.

Today the number of cases in Ireland rose to 892 - 785 cases in the south and 108 in the north.

Four Irish people have thusfar died in Ireland from the illness - one in the north and three in the south.

The geographical breakdown provided by the Department of Health in Dublin tonight however used only the 584 cases that had been confirmed in the south by midnight on Thursday.

Of the 584 cases notified, 55% are male and 44% are female, with 29 clusters involving 157 cases.

The median age of confirmed cases is 44 years

Thirty per cent of cases have been hospitalised; 13 cases were admitted to ICU - representing 2% of all cases hospitalised.

147 cases - 25% of cases are associated with healthcare workers.

Donegal is one of 11 counties that has five or fewer cases (1%).

Dublin has the highest number of cases at 320 (55%), followed by Cork at 88 (15%).

There were also more than five cases in Galway (21 cases; 4%), Wicklow (17 cases; 3%), Kildare (18 cases; 3%), Limerick (15 cases; 3%), Westmeath (14 cases; 3%), Kilkenny (11 cases; 3%), Meath (10 cases; 2%), Louth (9 cases; 2%), in Kerry and Waterford there were 8 cases each, or 1% of the national total, and in Clare and Offaly there were 7 cases each, or 1% of the national total.

There are still no cases in Monaghan.

Community transmission accounts for 42%; close contact accounts for 23%; and travel abroad accounts for 35%.
