Shauna Lynch co-opted by Sinn Féin to replace Sean Fleming as Derry councillor for Faughan

Shauna Lynch has been co-opted by Sinn Féin to replace Sean Fleming as Councillor for the Faughan area on Derry City and Strabane District Council.

Speaking after being formally installed in her new role, Colr. Lynch commented: “I am proud and honoured to have been selected for co-option to Derry City and Strabane District Council to replace Sean Fleming, who is stepping down.

“My focus is on building a better and fairer community, one where families can thrive and our children have the best possible future."

Shauna Lynch grew up in Derry City and studied at Magee University. After graduating in 2006, she spent some time travelling before returning home to raise her three young children with her husband.

She has worked as Constituency Office Manager for Ciara Ferguson MLA, over the past five years.

“I have worked closely with the Council team, both here and in Donegal for a number of years and I am excited about taking forward the huge opportunities that now exist to expand the conversation on Irish Unity and to deliver an unprecedented level of investment across Derry and Strabane,” she said.

Sinn Féin Council Group Leader Christopher Jackson congratulated Shauna on her selection.

He said: “Shauna will be a fantastic asset to a strong Sinn Féin team in Derry City and Strabane District Council. She has a proven track record of working hard for workers, families and communities and I have no doubt she will bring that energy and enthusiasm to delivering real and positive change to the lives of people in the Faughan DEA.”
