Sinn Féin MLA Martina Anderson has asked the people of Derry to light candles tomorrow night and send messages of solidarity to their fellow citizens and people around the world.

The 'Light for Ireland - Solidarity with the World' initiative will take place tomorrow night, Wednesday, March 25 between 9.00pm and 10pm.

People will be asked to light a candle, place a message beside it, and take a photo and upload it to a social media platform.

She said: “We all know it’s been a tough few weeks for everyone with the coronavirus pandemic.

“We are encouraging people to take part in the Light for Ireland - Solidarity with the World.

"Simply light a candle, place a solidarity message beside it, take a photo and upload it to Facebook and Twitter between 9.00pm and 10.00pm on Wednesday night using the hashtag - #LightForIreland

“The message of support could be to our healthcare workers, pharmacy staff ,people working in shops and providing essential services. It could be a simple message to a family member or friend living in another part of the world or a message of hope it’s up to you.
