PSNI probe Limavady care home assault report

The PSNI is investigating 'a report of assault' at a care home in the Limavady area, the '˜Journal' can reveal.

The ‘Journal’ has learned that the care home at which the alleged incident is said to have occurred is Cornfield Care Centre, which is located on Seacoast Road outside the town.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Police can confirm that a report of an assault at a care home in the Limavady area was received on Wednesday July 27th. Enquiries are ongoing at this time.”

A spokesperson for The Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority (RQIA) said: “In late July, RQIA was notified by Cornfield Care Centre Nursing Home of an alleged incident at this service, which is currently subject to a safeguarding vulnerable adults investigation, led by the local health and social care trust.

“The ongoing safety and wellbeing of every patient in nursing homes across Northern Ireland is of paramount importance to RQIA, and through its inspection and regulatory activities, RQIA continues to monitor the quality of care at this service.”

A spokesperson for the Western Trust said: “The Trust’s Adult Safeguarding Team is aware of an alleged incident at an independent care home facility in the Trust’s locality.

“The Trust has taken the necessary steps to ensure residents are appropriately cared for and is liaising with the home and other stakeholders.”

When contacted by the ‘Journal’ about the report of assault, a spokesperson for Cornfield Care Centre said “no comment”.

Cornfield Care Centre, first opened in 1999 and provides specialist nursing care to the frail, elderly and people who suffer from Alzheimer’s/Dementia.
