Relics of St Anthony to arrive in Derry on Wednesday

The relics will remain at the Cathedral through until 12pm on Thursday.

Derry is one of only eight locations across Ireland where people will be able to visit the relics, and a large number of people are expected.

A Ceremony of Welcome will commence at 12pm on Wednesday, followed by Veneration of the Relics until 7.15pm. Mass will be held at 7.30pm followed by Veneration of the Relics until 10.00 pm. On Thursday there will be Mass at 8am followed by Veneration of the Relics until 9.45 am, and then Mass at 10am followed by Veneration of the Relics, concluding with Ceremony of Farewell at 11am.

To facilitate those in attendance there will be no parking in the Cathedral grounds.

There will be set down vehicle access only for blue badge holders. A one-way system will be in operation – entrance via Creggan Street gate and exit via Francis Street gate.

Anyone travelling from within the city is advised to walk or use public transport.

Visitors coming into the city are encouraged to park at a distance from the Cathedral.

Saint Anthony was a 13th century Portuguese Friar and one of the first members of the Franciscan Order founded by Saint Francis in 1209.
