Coronavirus: Fewer than five confirmed cases (1%) of COVID-19 in Donegal

Fewer than five cases of COVID-19 confirmed in the south by midnight on Wednesday were in Donegal, the National Public Health Emergency Team have confirmed.

An analysis of cases up until midnight on Wednesday, March 17, provides greater detail on who is getting infected and where.

Today the number of cases in Ireland rose to 769 - 683 cases in the south and 86 in the north.

Four Irish people have thusfar died in Ireland from the illness - one in the north and three in the south.

The geographical breakdown provided by the Department of Health in Dublin tonight however used only the 438 cases that had been confirmed in the south by midnight on Wednesday.

The latest data from HPSC reveals that of the 438 cases notified, 55 per cent are male and 43 per cent are female, with 27 clusters involving 142 cases.

The median age of confirmed cases is 44.

Thirty two per cent of cases have been hospitalised with 2.7 per cent (12 cases) admitted to Intensive Care Units (ICU) - representing 8.6 per cent of all cases hospitalised.

114 cases are associated with healthcare workers, 36 of whom are associated with foreign travel.

Donegal was one of 12 counties where there had been fewer than five cases or 1 per cent of the national total.

Dublin has the highest number of cases at 225 (51%), followed by Cork 66 (15%) and Limerick and Wicklow have 15 (3%) cases each.

There were also more than five cases in Galway (14 cases; 3%), Westmeath (12 cases; 3%), Meath (11 cases; 3%), Kildare (9 cases; 2%), Louth (8 cases; 2%) and in Kerry Waterford, Clare and Kilkenny there were 7 cases each, or 2% of the national total.
