The new discount scheme will see diners able to enjoy cut price meals at restaurants, cafes and pubs throughout August, as part of the government’s efforts to boost the economy after lockdown.

How does it work?

The new scheme will allow diners to receive 50 per cent off meals and non-alcoholic drinks (up to the value of £10 per head) at participating eateries throughout August.

The offer will be available for a limited period only, from 3 until 31 August, with the discount applying on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

The Eat Out to Help Out restaurant finder is available on the Gov.uk website. Simply enter your postcode and hit search to find all of the businesses nearby that are running the scheme.

Which restaurants are taking part?

Thousands of restaurants, cafes and pubs across the UK will be participating in the scheme when it launches in August.

Several popular brands have already confirmed they will be offering the discount, with diners able to enjoy cut price food and drink at the likes of Nando’s, Costa, McDonald’s and Wetherspoons, among others.

A number of local, independent eateries will also be getting involved, and in some cases, restaurants are offering the Eat Out to Help Out discount on top of already low prices, thanks to the VAT cut.

VAT was reduced from 20 per cent to just five per cent for businesses in the hospitality and tourism sector, meaning in some instances diners count benefit from two discounts.

Here are some of the major restaurant, cafes and pub chains that have already confirmed their participation in Eat Out to Help Out:

  • McDonald’s
  • Burger King
  • KFC
  • Subway
  • Costa Coffee
  • Starbucks
  • Frankie and Benny's
  • Wagamama
  • Fridays
  • Nandos
  • Wetherspoons
  • Harvester
  • Toby Carvery
  • Oakman Inns
  • Stonegate pubs
  • Three Cheers Pub company
