Derry City game in doubt as Shamrock Rovers confirm positive Covid-19 tests

SHAMROCK Rovers has confirmed two positive Covid-19 tests by members of the club's first team squad ahead of Friday's proposed League of Ireland clash with Derry City at Tallaght.

The Dublin outfit today confirmed Ireland international Jack Byrne had tested positive while on international duty on Sunday.

And striker Aaron Greene has also tested positive following tests on Monday while several other first team players will go into self-isolation having been deemed close contacts to the player.

A statement from the club confirmed the news:

"Shamrock Rovers F.C. confirm that one player from the first team squad (Aaron Greene) has returned a positive covid19 test result following a test on Monday," it read.

"Several other players within the squad will follow a period of isolation as close contacts to the positive tested player.

"Jack Byrne tested positive whilst with the Ireland Senior Team on Sunday and is self-isolating at home."

The FAI will now decide whether the league meeting with Derry will go ahead as planned.

"The matter is now with the competitions department at the FAI to review remaining fixtures," continued the club statement.
