Ireland and Brighton star Shane Duffy pays tribute to his 'hero' dad Brian who passed away suddenly
Posting on Instagram, the Derry man described his father as his 'hero' and 'idol'.
Mr Duffy (53), originally from Letterkenny, is understood to have passed away at his home in Derry. He was well known in football circles and played a key role in his son's career.

Hide Ad"You weren’t just my dad, you were my hero, my idol," Shane said in his tribute on social media. "I’ll miss ringing u after the match and you telling me how sh**e I was [sic].
"Daddy I love you and miss you. Look after us all now. Every time I put that green shirt on for our country I’ll be thinking about you because I know how proud you were of me playing for Ireland.
"Love you and miss you."
Former Ireland international striker, Robbie Keane and former world cruiserweight champion, Tony Bellew were among hundreds of people sending their condolences to the Ireland star.
"So sorry to hear that Shane. I'm thinking off [sic] you and the family," said former Ireland coach, Keane.

Hide Ad"Thinking of you Duffer mate . . . thoughts are with you", added Bellew who knew Duffy from his time at Everton.
Ireland keeper, Randolph added: "Sorry to hear that Shane. Condolences to you and the family. He'll be watching over you with a big smile. Still so proud of you and what you've achieved and will achieve."
Former Man United, Sunderland and Ireland international defender, John O'Shea also sent his sympathy.
"Sorry for your loss Shane. Thinking of you and the family."
