Trojans turned on the style in their opening home fixture after trouncing Tobermore 6-0 to maintain their impressive start to the new season.

Ominously for the visitors, it was a lightning quick start by the home side who flew out of the blocks as Marc Doherty opened the scoring with only four minutes on the clock, the captain applying a cool finish following a great assist from McDermott. It means the Trojans skipper has already registered two goals in three games.

Shortly after, McDermott went from creator to finisher to get himself on the scoresheet when his perfectly timed run caught the Tobermore defence flat, and he made no mistake with a clever finish which doubled the Trojans’ advantage.

And just before half-time, McDermott struck again. An almost identical run on the opposite side of the pitch again beat the offside trap before he opened his body up and calmly slotted home his second of the game, sending the Blues into the half-time break three goals up.

Not content with their excellent first half, the second half saw Trojans really begin to express themselves. With the game now under control, the Derry side started to play with more confidence, producing neat passages of play, composed touches and taking a real foothold in the game.

On 47 minutes it was Friel's turn to get on the scoresheet when a lovely bit of link up play saw him combine with Joshua Callaghan before striking low and hard into the bottom left corner.

And just three minutes later Friel struck again for his second, and Trojans' fifth of the game, the young striker applying another cool finish enhance his growing reputation.

Tobermore battled hard and never gave up but by this stage the task was simply too big to salvage anything from the game. Indeed the icing on the Trojans cake came on 69 minutes when Luke Gallagher broke forward and played a brilliant one-two with McNeill, before giving the keeper absolutely no chance with a superb curled finish into the top-right corner. The result means its three wins from three games, a fantastic start to the season with the Derry lads will be looking to build on when Cookstown Youth arrive at Oakland Park on Tuesday evening (k.o. 7.15pm).
