Optimism surrounding a new, state of the art clubhouse, pitch and pavilion is being mirrored by increasing numbers at underage levels and the promise of a bright future. As Games Promotion Officer at the Creggan club, Clonmel native O'Donnell has played a a pivotal role in taking the club back into schools and back into the heart of the community.
Since his own playing days, O'Donnell has never been too far from the action at Piggery Ridge so we asked him to search his memory banks and come up with his own 'Dolan's Dream 15' and it's quite a side! Have a look and see what you think . . .
1. GOALKEEPER: Mark 'Bam' McCleary
'Bam' was a great keeper, first class organiser and god help any opposition forward who went one-on-one with him! Photo: Derry Journal
2. CORNER-BACK: Caolan Thompson
Caolan was a Derry minor in 2008. Fantastic at defending and just as comfortable driving forward. Unfortunately a horrible injury in Championship against Glack in 2013 cut short his playing days. A real loss and a class player. Photo: Derry Journal
3. FULL-BACK: Stephen McLaughlin
Rock solid. If you got one McGock's shoulders, you avoided a second.Often seen with hand in air seeking medical help for opposition player! Robbed of deserved place in treble season after horrific knee injury in 2007. Photo: Brian O'Donnell
4. CORNER-BACK: Dermot McLaughlin
Dermot was a real flyer at corner back, getting up and down the pitch to help the team at both ends. Great defender and another great organiser. Photo: Derry Journal
