The Creggan Club have been working with Radius Housing Association on the ambitious development for more than four years and hope the project will transform the club facilities into some of the best in Ulster as well as providing crucial social housing for the area.

The new facilities will include an indoor 3G facility, further development of the current clubhouse and additional social space that is intended to be used in activities that will also develop language and culture. As well as the extension of the club facilities, 119 social housing units will be built for a project that received planning permission earlier this year.

With the final details now ironed out, the Creggan expect work to commence after Easter.

"Sean Dolans GAC is delighted to announce that after four years of hard work we will be commencing work on our £2,000,000 flagship project within the next two weeks," read a club statement.

"This development will consist of an indoor 3G sports hall as well as an extension to our existing club facilities and work on our grounds including a new entrance and the relocation of our existing car park. Additionally, we are delighted that Radius Housing will be building 119 social housing units adjacent to the club which are critically needed.

"The buildings will be of high quality and will enhance our ability to provide sporting activities all year round! We intend to do an official socially distanced sod-cutting event within the next month or so at which we will acknowledge those who assisted us on our venture!

"Finally, this fantastic achievement is a credit to every member of Sean Dolans GAC, from the youngest player to the more senior members of our club. They can all be rightly proud of their club and its achievements! From the despair of the arson attack on our club in 2009 when our club nearly went out of business to what will be one of the best-equipped clubs in the county; the journey has been eventful and ultimately worthwhile!"
