Derry COVID-19 rate falls below 100 per 100k for first time in 129 days

The seven-day coronavirus rate in Derry and Strabane has fallen below 100 per 100,000 for the first time in 129 days.

Between January 22 and January 28, there were 147 confirmed positive cases of the virus in the district giving a seven day rate per 100,000 of 97.6, down from 106.2 yesterday.

It hasn't been lower since September 22, when the rate was 85.6. The measures to suppress the second wave before Christmas did not succeed in getting the cases rate below 100 per 100,000 prior to the third surge.

Derry/Strabane is recording the lowest coronavirus rate in the six counties after Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon (381.9), Mid Ulster (349.8), Newry, Mourne and Down (224.8), Antrim and Newtownabbey (204), Mid and East Antrim (190.5), Belfast (181.4), Fermanagh and Omagh (169.5), Lisburn and Castlereagh (148.8), Causeway Coast and Glens (124.8) and North Down (118.7).

The average prevalence rate for the north over the same seven day period was 212.1, down from 216.1 per 100,000 yesterday.

The daily change in the cumulative number of patients with a positive test in Derry and Strabane between January 27 and 28 was 27.

In total 10.646 people have tested positive in Derry and Strabane since the start of the pandemic last year.
