Derry/Strabane COVID-19 rate dips slightly after trebling over the Christmas and New Year period

The seven-day case rate per 100,000 fell slightly in Derry/Strabane between Sunday and Monday after more than trebling over the Christmas and New Year period.

Between December 28 and January 4, 1,112 positive cases were recorded across the Derry and Strabane council area giving a seven day rate per 100,000 of 738.

This was down slightly on the case rate of 744 per 100,000 reported on Sunday.

But it was more than treble the rate of 228.3 that was recorded on the Wednesday before Christmas, December 23.

The highest rates in the north are in Mid Ulster (941.6), Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon (899) and Newry, Mourne and Down (806.9).

The daily change in the cumulative number of patients with a positive test in Derry and Strabane between January 2 and January 3 was 117.

In total 9,409 people have now tested positive for the illness in Derry and Strabane.
