Woman believed ex was 'trying to wipe out her bloodline' after alleged Snapchat firearm video Derry court told

A Derry court has heard that a woman said that she believed her former partner was 'trying to wipe out her entire bloodline' after he allegedly sent her a Snapchat video of himself with a firearm and allegedly said that 'bullets were going everywhere'.

William McDonagh (20) of Woodland Avenue in Derry appeared before the court in the city on Friday facing a series of driving and firearm charges and with sending threatening messages on October 28.

The court heard that while the defendant didn't know where the alleged injured party was, he was alleged to have sent Snapchat messages and to have made phone calls to her.

The woman was said to have been left 'distressed and fearful' by the messages it was alleged he had sent.

On one of the Snapchat videos the defendant was alleged to have produced a firearm and threatened his former partner unless she rekindled the relationship. In another video McDonagh was alleged to have had a blade.

The 20-year-old was accused of making numerous calls and messages and the court heard claims that on one occasion he sent 20 video calls.

The defendant was arrested after a car was stopped on the Culmore Road. The car was told that the care was said to be 'in a dangerous condition', and it was alleged that McDonagh was found to have no licence or insurance, and also allegedly had no permission to drive the vehicle.

The woman victim was said to be 'afraid' to make a statement until the weapon allegedly displayed in the video was recovered.

Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said his client had an address that was deemed suitable and added that McDonagh was unaware of where the alleged injured party was living.

He said McDonagh could be bailed with conditions.

District Judge Ted Magill said this defendant was not yet 21-years-old and has a record of 33 previous convictions.

He said this experience 'must have been very frightening' for the woman and while McDonagh doesn't know where the woman is now, he could find her.

Bail was refused and the defendant was remanded in custody to appear again on November 26.
