Woman jailed for throwing bottles at young people in Derry's Foyle Street

A woman with 62 previous convictions has been jailed at Derry Magistrate's Court for throwing bottles at youths in Foyle Street.

Laura Holden (34) of no fixed abode admitted one offence of disorderly behaviour that occurred on August 27 this year.

The court heard that members of the public alerted police at around 6pm on that date that a woman was throwing bottles and shouting at youths in the Foyle Street area.

Police attended and the youths confirmed that Holden had thrown bottles at them.

When police approached, Holden she was found to be highly intoxicated and continued to shout and swear.

Defence counsel Sinead Rogan said that the defendant was currently serving a lengthy prison sentence.

District Judge Suzanne Rice said Holden had engaged in behaviour that caused concern to members of the public and was 'highly abusive'.

She said that Holden was 'no stranger to the courts' in terms of this sort of behaviour, and that anyone who thought they could behave like this in a public street had another thing coming.

Holden was jailed for 4 months.
