David Bowie to get a Derry '˜wake'

Derry fans of the late David Bowie are being encouraged to attend an unorthodox '˜wake' in his honour in Sandinos Back Bar on Monday evening.

The event is being organised by local fan, Kevin Magee, and is called ‘A Derry Bowie Wake’.

Rock and pop phenomenon Bowie passed away in New York on Sunday after an 18 month battle with cancer; he was 69 years-old.

‘A Derry Bowie Wake’ will start at 10pm and fans are being asked to bring along their favourite David Bowie albums and tracks to play. Admission is free.

Bowie’s son Duncan Jones confirmed his father’s death on Twitter and wrote: “Very sorry and sad to say it’s true. I’ll be offline for a while. Love to all.”
