No-one found in Limavady search after report of man threatening children

Limavady police carried out an extensive search following a report of a man telling children to leave a park in a threatening manner, but confirmed that no-one matching the description was found.

A report relating to the Benevenagh Drive area was received at approximately 8.55pm on Thursday.

Local officers attended with assistance from Air Support Unit and Armed Response Unit colleagues, and conducted a ‘significant search’ but ‘no-one matching the description provided was located’.

Local Policing Inspector Roxborough said: “We are aware of reports on social media alleging that the man was making sexualised comments towards children, and want to emphasise that this is not what was reported to police.

“As evidenced by our response, when we dispatched a substantial number of officers to the area, we take any reported threat towards the safety of children extremely seriously.

“We would ask that the public avoid speculation, and instead contact us with any information they may have.”
