'Long overdue' Strand Road resurfacing to get under way this weekend in Derry
A section of the Strand Road in Derry is to be resurfaced over the course of the next fortnight, with evening road closures in place a Derry MLA has advised.
SDLP Foyle MLA Mark H Durkan welcomed confirmation that the ‘long-overdue’ resurfacing works from the junction with Duncreggan Road and Quayside Roundabout, will be carried out between this Sunday, August 2 and Sunday, August 16.
A full road closure will be in place between 7pm and 7am to facilitate the works.
Mr Durkan said: “The Strand Road is one of the main arterial routes into our city, used by thousands of motorists every day. For too long its condition has been a source of frustration for residents, commuters and businesses alike. I’ve consistently raised concerns about the deteriorating state of the road and pressed the Infrastructure Minister to ensure this essential work was prioritised.

Mr Durkan added: “I’m pleased that the Department has agreed to my proposal to have these works carried out overnight to minimise disruption for motorists and local businesses.
“There are many more across our city still in desperate need of investment including throughout Creggan and Ballymagroarty."
