Flood prevention funding welcomed

Sinn Féin Foyle MLA Maeve McLaughlin has welcomed the Northern Ireland Executive's decision to spend £1.3 million on flood prevention measures.

Stormont ministers decided this week to spend the full £1.3m of additional funding available for flooding on measures to help mitigate future flooding.

The decision follows months of persistent heavy showers and torrential downpours which have seen some parts of Ireland and Britain devastated.

“My party colleague, Agriculture Minister Michelle O’Neill, has been to the fore in dealing with the recent flooding.

“She will now work with other ministers to bring forward proposals looking at further options to support flood-hit communities.”

Ms McLaughlin claimed the funding was “further evidence of Sinn Féin’s commitment of ensuring the Executive delivers for local people”.
